This message was not paid for by the Committee to Give Barack Obama His Own Twitter Page.
If you’ve wondered who, for the past six years, has been tweeting at you from the Twitter account with the handle Barack Obama (@BarackObama) and assumed it was Barack Obama, you assumed wrong. The real Obama (not to be confused with the other real Obama) just received his own Twitter account(!) and four hours ago tweeted out his first message:
Hello, Twitter! It’s Barack. Really! Six years in, they’re finally giving me my own account.
— President Obama (@POTUS) May 18, 2015
Not to be outdone, the other real Obama welcomed the real real Obama to Twitter:
Welcome @POTUS, the official government account of the President of the United States. — Barack Obama (@BarackObama) May 18, 2015
Not only that, but someone named Kori Schulman, who is described on Twitter as White House Director of Online Engagement, tweeted out a photo of Obama sitting on the edge of his desk tweeting out his first tweet as “POTUS”:
Here’s a photo of President Obama sending the very first @POTUS tweet from the Oval Office. pic.twitter.com/EQGmVAlybh

No word yet on whether someone at the White House will be tweeting a photo of Schulman tweeting her message.
