Stupid times at Ventura High: School accepts donation from Chick-fil-A then bans campus franchise

There is a virulent strain of hypocrisy running through this school.

A Chick-fil-A franchise in California donated 200 meals to Ventura High School’s football team to raise funds for new uniforms, but the restaurant chain was quickly banned from the campus for its support of traditional marriage.

Via the Advocate:

Students at Ventura High School in California won’t be eating “mor chikin” anytime soon, as the school’s principal banned fast-food chain Chick-fil-A from the campus over the company’s connection to antigay causes.

A Ventura location of the Atlanta-based chain had planned to donate some 200 sandwiches and wraps to Ventura High’s football booster club for a back-to-school fundraiser the group held Wednesday, but principal Val Wyatt said the company’s donations to antigay causes could offend parents and students, according to Los Angeles TV station KCAL.

The football team anticipated raising over $1,600 through the event by selling Chick-fil-A’s donated items.

Watch the KCAL report:

Principal Val Wyatt told a local newspaper:

With their political stance on gay rights and because the students of Ventura High School and their parents would be at the event, I didn’t want them on campus.

Remarkably, District Superintendent Trudy Tuttle Arriaga stood by the principal’s decision, citing the value of “inclusivity and diversity.”

So being inclusive means banning a business those who disagree with your point of view? Diversity means accepting a variety of viewpoints as long as they don’t cross wires with your own narrow set of opinions?

Can you imagine if the phrase “I didn’t want them on campus” was actually applied to an LGBT group? The media outrage would be non-stop, lead story, 24/7 cycle material.

The false equivalency of this is astounding, especially considering the Chick-fil-A ban is being implemented by a group of educators. Chick-fil-A has never banned gays from its stores, and if the principal and superintendent are unaware of that fact, the kids at the Ventura School Distrcit are being led by willfully ignorant administrators.

IJ Review writes (H/T Rare):

While [Chick-fil-A CEO founder S. Truett] Cathy didn’t hide his opposition to gay marriage, there was nothing derogatory or hateful towards gay people in his comments. Also, no evidence has ever been presented that any Chick-Fil-A franchise has ever denied service to openly gay customers and their families. In addition, Chick-Fil-A no longer even donates money to political organizations supporting traditional marriage.

Chick-fil-A has never banned anyone from their stores, yet they’ve been discriminated against themselves by intolerant individuals at Ventura High School.
