Bloomberg anti-gun ad backfires; viewers think it promotes gun ownership (Video)

A new anti-gun public service announcement created by the group, Everytown for Gun Safety, has gone viral — but not for the reason its creators had intended.

The dark, gritty, 30-second video depicts a young mother’s home being forcefully invaded by her ex-husband while she’s on the phone with 9-1-1. He breaks through the front door and grabs their child. When she attempts to stop him, he draws a handgun.

The message was supposed to be a call to remove guns from the hands of domestic abusers. However, the message most people are taking away from the clip is that the mother should have been armed herself, according to MyFoxNY.

Oops.

Just because former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg left Gracie Mansion, and apparently, the right to membership in Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a group he co-founded, that didn’t mean he stopped promoting his favorite cause — gun grabbing.

So it was goodbye Mayors Against Illegal Guns and hello Everytown For Gun Safety.

According to MyFoxNY:

Bloomberg has been a heavy critic of what he calls “lax” gun laws across the country. Everytown for Gun Safety wants to encourage people to contact their legislators about the need for tougher gun laws. It just might send people to the gun store instead.

The video wasn’t Bloomberg’s first misfire with Everytown. The fact-check organization PolitiFact reported last month that Everytown’s claim that there have been 74 school shootings since Sandy Hook was found “mostly false.”

Here’s the clip, via Everytown. What do you think? Does it really promote gun ownership?
