Leak of billionaires’ tax records to left-wing group referred to FBI

[Ed. – Hard as it is to believe, right-wing media are actually criticizing this referral. People, out of all the ridiculous things folks are caterwauling about regarding the “billionaire tax records,” THE LEAK is the one that could happen to you.  THE LEAK IS THE FELONY HERE.  I’m-a use all caps until you get it.  I don’t care what taxes the billionaires paid; their compliance with the law is probably much better than ours.  What matters is that someone leaked their tax info to the media.  Get incensed about that.  It could happen to you, and it will, the day some petty bureaucrat or left-wing ideologue decides you need to be punished.  Unlike the billionaires, you will be essentially defenseless against the misuse of your private information.  This leak was not a public service; it was a stunt, to get people to start mindlessly complaining about billionaires.  (- J.E.)]

The disclosure of the personal income and tax data of some of the wealthiest Americans has been referred to additional federal investigators to probe the leak of confidential information, an Internal Revenue Service official said.

“Treasury announced yesterday that they made investigative referrals to their Office of Inspector General as well as the FBI, and the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia,” Douglas O’Donnell, the IRS’s deputy commissioner for services and enforcement, told a House Ways and Means committee panel Thursday. “We fully support any investigation under taken and will urge the investigative authorities to keep Congress appropriately informed of their findings.”

IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig told a Senate committee on Tuesday that the agency watchdog had opened an investigation. O’Donnell said he could not comment further on any of the investigations.
