Target will pause sales of Pokémon and sports trading cards following a violent dispute at one of its Wisconsin locations.
According to CNN, the retailer issued the decision after a man was physically assaulted by four other people in a Target last week. The incident resulted in the store being placed on lockdown.
“The safety of our guests and our team is our top priority,” Target wrote in a notice placed in a store. “Out of an abundance of caution, we’ve decided to temporarily suspend the sale of MLB, NFL, NBA and Pokémon trading cards within our stores, effective May 14.”
Though the cards will be unavailable in stores, Target said that customers will still be able to purchase them online, according to CNN.
Trading cards have surged in value during the coronavirus pandemic, with resale values reaching thousands of dollars.
