[Ed. – No word yet on identity, motive of killer.]
A U.S. Capitol Police officer was killed and another officer was injured when a man rammed his car into the officers near a Capitol Hill security barricade Friday afternoon.
The man rammed the officers shortly after 1 p.m., and then crashed into the barricade, Acting U.S. Capitol Police [sic] Yogananda Pittman said at a news conference Friday afternoon. The man then exited the car “with a knife in hand,” and lunged at officers before officers shot him.
The suspect as well as both officers were taken to hospitals, where the suspect and one of the officers was pronounced dead.
Pittman did not identify the officer who was killed. She said the officer’s next-of-kin still needed to be notified.
“It is with a very, very heavy heart that I announce on [sic] of our officers has succumbed to his injuries,” Pittman told reporters.
