Joe Biden’s dog story turns out to be a fish tale

“Oh man, not a very exciting story.” That was Joe Biden’s reaction to his own confession of how he really broke his foot, as narrated to CNN’s Jake Tapper.

The initial story that went out was a far more manly story — more in keeping with the persona of a tough guy who wished he could take Donald Trump out behind the school gym and claims he mixed it up with a black gang leader nicknamed Corn Pop.

In the original retelling of the dog story, Biden was rough-housing with one of his two German Shepherd (a man’s dog!) three days after Thanksgiving and slipped. But those details, it turns out, were embellished, as the president-elect now acknowledges.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

What happened was I got out of the shower. I got a dog and anybody who’s been around my house knows — dropped, little pup dropped a ball in front of me, and for me to grab the ball. And I’m walking through this little alleyway to get to the bedroom, and I grabbed the ball like this and he ran. And I’m joking, running after him and grab his tail. And what happened was that he slid on a throw rug, and I tripped on the rug he slid on. That’s what happened. Oh man, not a very exciting story.

Not as exciting as wrestling with White Fang, but neither is admitting that he was never arrested in South Africa while trying to see a jailed Nelson Mandela or any of a host of other fables he has spun.

But there is a less innocent side to all of this as Hot Air’s Karen Townsend notes:

DePauw University professor and media critic Jeffrey McCall says the media should settle down when it comes to praising Biden for transparency in a case like this. It’s a foot injury. And, a dog is involved.

“The traditional media should not be giving the Biden camp so much praise for transparency regarding an injured foot. It is easy to manage transparency when dealing with a foot injury while also mentioning a family pet. Plenty of good optics here,” McCall told Fox News.

“More than sitting back to take detailed medical reports from the Biden team about hairline fractures in a foot, perhaps the press should explore more about why the Biden campaign put a lid on so many days during the campaign, or even inquire more about the circumstances under which the former vice president was in a position to get hurt by his dog,” McCall added.

“Of course, the media will look for every opportunity to compare transparency of the Biden camp to the Trump administration, but doing so on the basis of a foot injury and a walking boot is quite the waste of time.”

Or, how transparent will Team Biden be if Joe sufferers another brain aneurism or more mini-strokes as his medical history indicates?

How indeed? In April, NBC News ran a story proclaiming that former Vice President Joe Biden’s “physician states that the 77-year-old is in good health and nowhere near slowing down.” It’s all very encouraging unless you happen to glance at the second dateline of the article, which indicates it was written “129d ago.” A glimpse of that three-page medical summary linked above it confirms it. The summary is dated “15 December 2019.”

By the way, who has an “alleyway” in his house?
