Westchester police officials are telling cops in the county to refrain from law enforcement activity in New York City because of police reforms there that ban the kind of restraint that contributed to the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
Yonkers Police Commissioner John Mueller said today that he is barring his officers from enforcement activity in New York City because of the reforms, which were passed by the City Council and signed this week by Mayor Bill de Blasio. Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano said he supported Mueller’s decision.
Olson said cops in Westchester, particularly those from communities that border the Bronx, frequently have to operate in New York City for car pursuits, investigations or warrant activity.
His message to them was simple. “Don’t.”
