It is possible that the Left still retains enough humanity to not be actively cheering on the coronavirus pandemic, though some on the Left seem to be doing just that.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said as much in his response to a tweet by Washington Post “fact-checker” Glenn Kessler. In the tweet, Kessler seems to take delight at the current economic news as seen against the backdrop of remarks the president made at this year’s State of the Union address. Here’s the text of the tweet:
Line from Trump’s State of the Union address that did not age well: ‘Incredibly, the average unemployment rate under my administration is lower than any administration in the history of our country.’
And here is the senator’s response:
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
The press HATED that, three months ago, we had the lowest African-American & Hispanic unemployment ever recorded. Now that we’re in the midst of a global pandemic—which originated in Wuhan, not the Oval Office—too many in the press are giddy with glee. #RootForAmerica https://t.co/JGb5mgHanT

While appearing on Fox News Channel’s “The Ingraham Angle,” Cruz addressed the Kessler remark, which he said is part of a trend among the mainstream media.
“We should be coming together to root for America, to root for defeating this pandemic, to root for jobs coming back,” Cruz stated emphatically, adding:
I think too many partisan Democrats want to just use this catastrophe to attack Trump rather than come together and fight for our country.
Cruz has a point, especially with respect to Kessler’s comment. To suggest that Doanld Trump was somehow wrong for celebrating a robust economy in early February is absurd. To imply that there was no significant event taking place in the world that caused the economy to go into a tailspin is media malpractice. But to do both as a means to dunk on the president is sick.
