A longtime and well-regarded Fox News anchor is stepping down.

Shepard “Shep” Smith is exiting the cable news network, EW has confirmed.

Smith was the network’s chief news anchor and breaking news managing editor of Shepard Smith Reporting.

Friday’s episode was Smith’s final show, and he’ll be replaced by a rotating series of anchors in the 3 p.m ET slot until a permanent replacement is selected and announced.

“Recently I asked the company to allow me to leave FOX News and begin a new chapter,” Smith said. “After requesting that I stay, they graciously obliged. The opportunities afforded this guy from small town Mississippi have been many. It’s been an honor and a privilege to report the news each day to our loyal audience in context and with perspective, without fear or favor.”…
