Experts speculate Guzman is destined for the infamous federal prison south of Denver in Florence, Colorado, according to the Associated Press.
Guzman was sentenced to life in prison Wednesday for drug trafficking after a lifelong career. The leader of the Sinaloa drug cartel has an unparalleled record of jailbreaks, having escaped two high-security Mexican prisons before his ultimate capture and extradition to the United States.
The prison in question is nicknamed ADX for “administrative maximum.” The facility is so secure and remote that it has been called the “Alcatraz of the Rockies.”
Cameron Lindsay, a retired federal prison warden, previously told the Associated Press that she believes El Chapo is going to be sent to the prison.
El Chapo has a history of escapes from prison. No one has ever escaped The ADX in Colorado, thanks to its heightened security, according to Euronews.
