Teen wakes up from coma after she’s hospitalized in Dominican Republic

The Argentinian teen who fell unconscious on a Dominican Republic vacation because of a life-threatening diabetic condition has woken up from her coma.

Candela Saccone, 15, has been taken off a ventilator after she was hospitalized June 19 while staying at a Punta Cana resort, according to Argentinian news outlet Cronica.

“When they told us that she said a few words and got annoyed when they spoke to her, I said, ‘That’s my granddaughter!’” her grandmother, Mónica Zanollo, told the outlet.

Candela was rushed to the local hospital after she began experiencing symptoms of dizziness, vomiting and dehydration on the day she was supposed to return home.

The teen was then transferred to General Hospital of the Plaza de la Salud in Santo Domingo, where she was reported Tuesday to be in critical condition, CNN’s Spanish-language news channel reported.

But just three days later, her family said that her health had improved and she no longer needed a ventilator, according to Cronica.
