On Tuesday, as troops loyal to Venezuelan socialist dictator Nicolás Maduro brutalized opposition demonstrators, MSNBC’s Kerry Sanders explained that part of the reason the Maduro government is still in power, and part of the reason it is so easily able to suppress and oppress Venezuelans, is because the people are unarmed. …

“Not only hanging on but he appears to still control the military,” the MSNBC journalist said of his reporting. “You have to understand, in Venezuela gun ownership is not something that’s open to everybody. So if the military have the guns, they have the power and as long as Nicolás Maduro controls the military, he controls the country.”
