15-year-old killed by pawn shop employee during attempted robbery

A 15-year-old was shot and killed while allegedly trying to rob an east-side pawn shop with a stolen gun.

An employee shot the teen during the robbery attempt at the E-Z Pawn in the 6200 block of East Washington Street just before 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, according to an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department news release.

The Marion County coroner’s office identified the teen as Ja’Shawn Taylor.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officers responded to a report of a person shot at the E-Z Pawn in the 6200 block of East Washington Street just before 3:40 p.m. They found a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, IMPD said in a news release.

The man was taken to Eskenazi Hospital, where he later died, the release said.
