Philadelphia state representative, Vanessa Lowery Brown, got off light with 23-month probation after taking bribes.
It was an undercover sting that corraled the representative who showed remorse after being caught. Isn’t that how it usually goes. Politicians are always sorry when they get caught but never remorseful when they are doing the crime.
Michael Sprow, Dauphin County prosecutor, said that Brown deserved jail time because she accepted $3,000 inside her state Capitol office. She knew she was going wrong and she decided to tread on her integrity by going through with this crime.
Neither Lowery Brown nor her defense attorney would say whether she intended to resign immediately. She was unopposed and won a sixth term in the Nov. 6 election, but officials say her felony bribery conviction makes her ineligible under the state constitution to hold office.
