[Ed. – Sounds crazy till you get to the part about the curse(?).]
It’s a competition at a Kentucky college where the grand prize is spending the night in a tomb!
According to WKYT, each year, students at Transylvania University in Lexington celebrate “Raf Week,” in honor of Constantine Rafinesque, a professor at the school back in the early 1800’s.
“It’s kind of to honor him because he did set a curse on the university when he left,” explains senior Aaron Martin. “So, our hope is to appease him and honor him to set back the curse.”
Legend has it that the curse hits the campus every seven years. While it may seem far-fetched students say you can’t deny some weird things have happened. Good news for the winners: this year is an off-year for the legendary curse.
“Right after he left the president that he cursed got yellow fever,” said Martin. “There’s been outbreaks of different diseases on campus but not in the rest of Lexington. It’s just been very spooky, weird stuff that you can’t really explain otherwise.”
