Trump cancels Pompeo trip to North Korea, cites lack of progress in talks

[Ed. – Trump is negotiating by playing hardball.  Naturally, his political opponents are depicting this as a black eye — just as they would depict it as a black eye if he went ahead with the trip.  I’ll wait for the outcome.]

U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday abruptly canceled his top diplomat’s planned trip to North Korea, publicly acknowledging for the first time that his effort to get Pyongyang to denuclearize had stalled since his summit with North Korea’s leader.Trump partly blamed China for his lack of progress with North Korea and suggested that talks with Pyongyang, led so far by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, could be on hold until after Washington resolved its bitter trade dispute with Beijing. …

But Trump still kept the door open to a second summit with Kim, with whom the president recently said he has “great chemistry.”
