BREAKING: Explosion reported at/near U.S. embassy grounds in Beijing; initial report of man ‘hurling bomb’

[Ed. – Developing; seems to have occurred about 40 minutes ago as of posting time here.  It isn’t clear exactly where the explosion was: videos and images show smoke around the embassy building, but there has been no announcement as to whether the U.S. embassy was directly affected.  The Indian embassy is also close by.  A number of Indian news outlets are reporting the news with as much excitement as the reports about the U.S. embassy.  The UK Mirror is the only one reporting on the man trying to hurl the bomb; no other source is giving details yet.]

A large blast rocked an area in front of the US Embassy in Beijing when a man tried to hurl a homemade bomb into the gated compound, it was reported.

But the bomb exploded before the man could toss it over the fence, causing confusion and panic in the street.

The blast reportedly injured a number of people and damaged a police car parked outside the compound’s gates.
