[Ed. – Probably a good idea, in at least some dimensions. Will function as a hamstring in some others.  Keep in mind, people only think the recent meeting was mishandled because the media were determined to depict it that way.  The question is not whether Trump can manage the relationship; it’s whether the people — even people of goodwill, including conservatives — can get over their mindset-capture about what they expect to hear regarding these events.  It’s almost entirely ritual orthodoxy over specific substance now, after so many decades of post-1945 American practice.  That doesn’t make Trump the problem.  Hint, hint.]

The next bilateral meeting between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will take place “after the first of the year,” National security adviser John Bolton announced Wednesday.

“The President believes that the next bilateral meeting with President Putin should take place after the Russia witch hunt is over, so we’ve agreed that it will be after the first of the year,” Bolton said in a statement Wednesday.

That meeting, the second of its kind between the two leaders, was originally expected to be in the fall, according to the White House.
