Roughly one-in-five of the children who illegally entered the United States with their alleged parents could not be reunited because the adult was not the child’s actual parent or the adult presented some danger to the child, according to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). These cases related specifically to a court order issued by Judge Dana Sabraw, who serves on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California. …

In following the order, however, the Department of Health and Human Services discovered that for the 103 alien children, 11 of the alleged parents had a “serious criminal history,” which included charges for “child cruelty, kidnapping, murder, human smuggling” and “domestic violence.”

This affected 22 children who were found ineligible to be reunited because of the “safety concerns posed by the adults in question,” said the HHS. …

  1. Warrant for murder in Guatemala.

  2. Child cruelty and narcotics convictions.
