Iowa governor signs new ‘fetal heartbeat’ law that will effectively ban most abortions

[Ed. – This will be immediately challenged in federal court, of course, and probably enjoined by a judge.  But it’s more evidence that Americans remain unconvinced the unborn baby is “just a blob of tissue.”]

Gov. Kim Reynolds Friday signed legislation prohibiting nearly all abortions in Iowa after a fetal heartbeat is detected, making it the most restrictive abortion ban in the nation.

The Republican governor invited supporters into her august Capitol office to mark the occasion.

“I believe that all innocent life is precious and sacred, and as governor, I pledged to do everything in my power to protect it. That is what I am doing today,” Reynolds said. …
