CA Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom calls on Trump to resign following ‘sh*thole’ remark

California Lieutenant Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) called on President Trump to resign over his reported labeling of Haiti and African countries as “shithole countries” in an Oval Office meeting.

“You’re a joke and a racist, President Donald J. Trump,” Newsom wrote on Facebook. “Resign.”

The former San Francisco mayor joined a host of lawmakers, media figures and world leaders slamming Trump for the vulgar remarks, which he reportedly made during a meeting with bipartisan lawmakers on immigration this week.

In a statement Thursday, the White House did not deny Trump’s “shithole” comments.

Trump denied Friday saying “anything derogatory about Haitians other than Haiti is, obviously, a very poor and troubled country” in the meeting.

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), who was present in the meeting with Trump, saidthe president’s denials were “not true” because Trump “said these hate-filled things, and he said them repeatedly.”

Other California Democrats have called on Trump to leave office following the remarks.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) accused Trump of “promoting a homogenous, white society” with his comments, adding “there’s no room for racism in the Oval Office.”
