BREAKING: Active shooter reported in Charleston; *UPDATE* 1 dead, suspect shot; NOT terrorism

*UPDATE*: Police shot the suspect, a disgruntled restaurant employee, and the situation has reportedly been resolved.  The Post and Courier says one person has died — apparently a victim — and the shooter was taken to the hospital.

Original report:

An active shooter was reported in downtown Charleston, S.C., Thursday afternoon, prompting multiple roads to be blocked as police rush to the scene.

The “active shooter situation” was reported on King Street just after 12 p.m. Charleston police said the area has been blocked and asked residents to avoid the area.

Witnesses The Post and Courier the gunman went inside the restaurant Virginia’s. Tom and Patsy Plant, who were eating lunch in a restaurant, said a man came into the kitchen with a loaded gun and said, “There’s a new boss in town.” The couple escaped the restaurant through the back door.
