Former President Barack Obama’s ex-communications director tore into the new administration in a Friday op-ed, saying Kellyanne Conway and Sean Spicer need to start telling the truth.
“Stop lying,” Jen Psaki wrote for CNN. “If you don’t have the information or the answer, just say so.”
“If the fact that you are speaking on behalf of the United States government and the American people rely on the information you share isn’t enough, than the reality is that this isn’t Russia, we don’t have state-run media and you will be caught in your lie should be reason enough,” she added to Conway, who is President Trump’s senior counselor, and Spicer, the White House press secretary.
Psaki also urged Conway and Spicer to utilize a research team and fact check the statements they make to the public.
“If you don’t have a research team, hire one,” she said. “They are the unsung heroes of every White House.”
“At a minimum it will decrease the material ‘Saturday Night Live’ has to work with,” Psaki said.
Psaki, who was also a spokeswoman at Obama’s State Department, added Conway and Spicer face an uphill battle due to Trump’s unpredictability.
