[Ed. – Governments censor because people want to censor things. Never forget that. I know perfectly well that using this extension is a private opt-in decision, so don’t bother explaining it. The point I’m making is that government is just people. It does what people want to do. That’s why you keep it small and on a short leash, and regularly set the dogs on it.]
A new extension for Google Chrome allows users to block any mention of Donald Trump from their browsers.
“Minted by shady backroom real estate, distributed by reality television and crowned by incessant polling of ultra-early primary voters, Trump is the latest, hilarious permutation of American leadership,” states the product description for the extension. “He is not the candidate we need, but surely the one we deserve.”
If the “Trump Filter” finds any reference to the leading contender for the Republican presidential nomination, it substitutes the reference with a blank space.
When asked if he’s making any money from the extension, developer Rob Spectre responded, “No, nor was I put up to this by the Republican or Democratic Parties, the Obama administration, my mother or any other possible sphere of influence. I am doing this out of a profound sense of annoyance and patriotic duty.”
