Wichita police arrested two gang members for shooting at an officer’s home.
Three bullets struck the home in southeast Wichita around 1:45 am on December 14. His patrol car was in the driveway. Police say he wasn’t home, but his family was inside.
“We believe they did know it was an officer’s home,” said Lt. James Espinoza. “They they did this because he was an officer.”
No one was hurt, but like all drive by shootings, this case is frightening.
“It’s crazy that someone would target a police officer’s home, ” said neighbor Brett Golightly. “Especially at their home where family is. It’s crazy.”
Neighbors say they normally feel safe because the officer lives so close.
“To have something like that happen around here it’s pretty scary,” said neighbor Burt Doyas.
Detectives used forensic evidence and worked closely with gang investigators to track down two teenagers. They are 16 and 19, and both documented gang members.
