[Ed. – For East coast types: it’s only a little after 7 AM here, so the students haven’t arrived en masse yet. I’m watching a news conference on local TV as this goes to post. The LAUSD superintendent just stated that the schools will remain closed until every one of them has been searched. No specifics being given on the source of the threat. The Los Angeles Times does say it’s a bomb threat, but it’s not clear that we know that for sure.]
[UPDATE: A long, blathering press update at 10 AM Pacific reveals that security forces, including CHP and LAPD, are still searching the schools, which will remain closed all day. Plus, all public officials are deeply, deeply committed to our children’s safety.]
Los Angeles police confirmed that all Los Angeles Unified School District schools are closed Tuesday as police investigate an unspecified threat.
LAPD said the school district received some sort of threat – with unknown credibility.
Several LAUSD school bus drivers told Eyewitness News that they have been called back by their dispatchers to their respective bus depots.
Police did not give specifics on the threat or the surrounding investigation.
