Doing the same thing over and over again, and hoping for a different result is, we know, the definition of insanity. And yet, in the wake of another tragic shooting, the anti-gun lobby is playing the same, old record:
Blame the National Rifle Association.
President Obama wasted no time, telling American gun owners on the very night of the Oregon shooting “to think about whether your views are properly being represented by the organization that suggests it’s speaking for you.”
It was a riff on a theme he’s played before, saying after the Charleston church shooting that “the grip of the NRA on Congress is extremely strong.”
Some family members of shooting victims have also decided the NRA is to blame for the deaths of their loved ones. Richard Martinez, whose son died in an Isla Vista shooting was pointed: “Chris died because of craven, irresponsible politicians and the NRA.”
Andy Parker, whose daughter Alison died earlier this year, used even stronger language, telling CNN that the NRA is run by “zealots and people that are extremists” who “continue basically terrorizing this country.”
