Families are being put at risk by faulty kitchen appliances that have caused 12,000 fires in three years, a report has revealed.
The fires, involving fridges, dishwashers and washing machines, have resulted in massive damage, injury and deaths, an investigation by Which? found.
Separate figures from the London Fire Brigade point to 71 serious injuries and seven deaths linked to blazes caused by household appliances in the capital alone since 2010.
Which? said many of the appliances were known to have a fault but owners were not warned. There are concerns that manufacturers are not recalling or repairing products they know have problems.
Even if they do issue a recall, there is no system in place for them to know who has bought the products and where they live.
