Investigators are trying to figure out the motive in a deadly shooting of an ice cream truck driver as he sold treats to kids and parents at a housing development in the Frederick area.
Police said they believe between four and 10 kids, some as young as 5 years old, along with parents and caretakers, saw the homicide unfold Saturday evening.
The incident began around 5 p.m. when Brandon Thomas Brown, 22, was in the ice cream truck that he and another man were operating in the area, police said.
When Brown stepped off the truck, the gunman shot him at least once in the chest, according to police. The shot was at close range, and Brown was pronounced dead on arrival, authorities said.
No one else was injured in the shooting, police said.
