A Philadelphia mom is in custody at a Maryland hospital after she ditched her disabled son in a wooded area and skipped town to visit her boyfriend, according to authorities.
A passerby in Cobbs Creek Park discovered the 21-year-old man, a nonverbal quadriplegic who also has cerebral palsy, lying near an empty wheelchair with a Bible on his chest on Friday night after he was abandoned for five days without any provisions, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. …
The mother, 41-year-old Nyia Parler, was arrested overnight in Silver Spring, Md., a Montgomery police official told the Daily News. … She’s expected to be charged with a slew of crimes, including aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and neglect of a dependent person, according to media reports.
Parler abandoned her vulnerable son on Monday on a pile of leaves in the park so she could visit her boyfriend in Maryland, the Inquirer reported.
Authorities contacted Parler after her son didn’t attend school on Monday morning and she allegedly fibbed to family members and cops that he had come with her to Maryland, according to the TV station.
