The son looked at his beloved mother’s body lying in her casket and said to the funeral home attendant, “It doesn’t look like my mom.”
The woman assured Bruce Lawson of Houston that it indeed was his mother.
He later learned — after the funeral and after the burial — that it wasn’t his mom at all.
And so the Mobrie Memorial Mortuary had to dig up the coffin that had been buried atop the final resting place of Lawson’s father, KHOU-TV reported.
“I said to her … ‘It doesn’t look my mom,’” Lawson said. “Do you think maybe you have the wrong body? And she said ‘we don’t make those kind of mistakes.’”
But they did.
Lawson said he received a phone call this week, just days after the funeral for Edna Lawson, 81. The mortuary employee told him his mother’s remains were still at the funeral home.
