[Ed. – This very strange event saw one shooter proclaiming that it’s a “revolution,” and then the two shooters committing suicide together. One strong possibility is that mind-altering drugs were involved. More will presumably follow as the police sort this out. It’s a very busy area of Las Vegas, even on a Sunday morning.]
[Ed. – UPDATE: News now reporting both police officers have died of their gunshot wounds. Terrible. Death toll is now 5: the three victims and the two perpetrators, who committed suicide.]
Two suspects declaring the start of “the revolution” shot two police officers this morning at a pizza restaurant on Nellis Boulevard, then ran into a nearby Wal-Mart and shot at least one other person before killing themselves, according to Metro Police.
A woman who said she witnessed the start of the bloodshed described an execution-style assault on two officers who were eating pizza and probably never saw the attack coming.
Assistant Sheriff Kevin McMahill said the two suspects ambushed and shot the two officers shortly before 11:30 a.m. at the CiCi’s Pizza at 309 N. Nellis Blvd., near Stewart Avenue. Officer Larry Hadfield, a Metro spokesman, said one of the suspects yelled, “This is a revolution.”
They took the officers’ ammunition and reportedly ran inside the Wal-Mart on Nellis Boulevard between Charleston Boulevard and Stewart Avenue. A number of responding officers followed the suspects into the store, McMahill said.
There, the suspects shot and killed at least one person before they killed themselves in an apparent suicide pact, according to McMahill.
The condition of the two officers was not known, and police could not confirm whether anyone else was shot. CNN, attributing its information to Metro spokeswoman Officer Laura Meltzer, was reporting the officers had died, but Meltzer would not confirm the report to the Sun. Sheriff Doug Gillespie has scheduled a news conference at 4 p.m.
