George Zimmerman is an artist ― an artist who likes to quote the Pledge of Allegiance.
Zimmerman, who was acquitted of murder earlier this year in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, is auctioning off what he calls his “first hand painted artwork.” The 18-by 24-inch painting is available on eBay.
The painting is of a blue-tinted American flag with the words “God, One Nation, with Liberty and Justice for All” stamped in white. Bidding started Monday at $0.99. As of press time, the “current bid” display was showing $99,966. There are more than four days left until the gavel falls, almost ensuring the painting will draw higher bids.
So, what inspired Zimmerman to paint? Here’s the artist’s explanation on eBay:
Everyone has been asking what I have been doing with myself. I found a creative, way to express myself, my emotions and the symbols that represent my experiences. My art work allows me to reflect, providing a therapeutic outlet and allows me to remain indoors 🙂 I hope you enjoy owning this piece as much as I enjoyed creating it. Your friend, George Zimmerman
