A German boy in a permanent vegetative state may lose his best friend — an American Staffordshire Terrier — after authorities claimed it was a dangerous pet.
The decision to remove “chief carer” Tascha from Dylan Gerzmehle’s side has been opposed by more than 100,000 people on a Facebook campaign.
Video has been released showing the dog resting her head on Dylan’s arm and tenderly licking his arm.
“When Tascha lies by him, the boy becomes much calmer and his pulse and breathing relax,” his father Eckhard Gerzmehle told The Local website from the family home close to Berlin.

Kept alive by a life-support machine, Dylan, is 10-years-old and has been in a vegetative state since birth. Tascha was bought by the family six years ago.
