A new poll shows President Obama‘s approval ratings at an all-time low, and for the first time, more people disapprove of his foreign policy handling than approve, and Syria is to blame. This NBC News poll [PDF] finds that Obama’s approval ratings currently stand at 44 percent, the lowest in the history of the poll, tied with a few months towards the end of 2011.
49 percent of people said they disapproved of how Obama has handled foreign policy, as opposed to 41 that approve. As for Syria specifically, it’s 44 to 35 against the president. Compared to previous polls on the subject, more people want military action in Syria (26 percent) but it’s still outpaced by the 40 percent of people who only want to provide humanitarian assistance and the 23 percent that want no more action whatsoever.
The poll also, interestingly, finds that while a majority of people oppose Syrian intervention, it flips when the question concerned limited air strikes with cruise missiles.
