Al Gore’s staff says The Washington Post mangled a quote that made the former vice president the object of derision.
The paper quoted Gore as claiming that a new “category 6” is being added to the hurricane rating system — but he claims to have said something different, and the Post isn’t standing by the quote as it appeared in its interview transcript.
On Wednesday the Post published an in-depth interview on climate change with Gore that quoted him saying: “The extreme events are more extreme. The hurricane scale used to be 1-5 and now they’re adding a 6. The fingerprint of man-made global warming is all over these storms and extreme weather events.”
But Gore’s staff, according to a follow-up Post item Friday, tell the paper that they had Gore saying something a bit different in the interview. They have the quote this way: “The scientists are now adding category six to the hurricane … some are proposing we add category 6 to the hurricane scale that used to be 1-5.”
