A local middle school student was suspended for the remainder of the school year after he pretended to shoot at other students in the hallway with his hands.
According to KOMO-TV, 14-year-old Hunter Lance, a student at Marysville Middle School, was given a 9-day suspension from the school for his actions.
The move may mean summer school for the student. His mother, Rondi Lance, understands the severity of the situation, but told the station that she finds the punishment to be more harsh than is necessary.
“I am not questioning the suspension or the discipline actions. Definitely they should’ve done what they did, but I think it’s really extreme,” she was quoted as saying. “Nobody has taken any steps to talk to him and explain to him how serious this is and why we have to do this.”
According to assistant school superintendent Gail Miller, Hunter has a history of problems at the school that factored into the punishment rendered following the May 31 incident.
