Charlottesville residents give city council an earful at chaotic meeting

A Charlottesville city council meeting devolved into chaos last night as protesters interrupted the proceedings with chants of “blood on your hands.”

Monday’s meeting was the first since a white supremacist rally turned violent, leaving a woman dead when a man plowed his car into a crowd of counter-protesters.

Mayor Mike Signer, a Democrat, was repeatedly shouted down, as demonstrators voiced their anger over the city’s response to the event and demanded his resignation.

Those who came out argued that the police and officials did not do enough to prevent violence and called for Confederate statues to be removed around the city.
