A petition on the White House’s website launched this week, asking President Donald Trump to formally recognize Antifa as a terrorist organization.
According to the petition, Antifa has earned the title of “terrorist organization” for their “violence and intimidation in pursuit of political aims.”
“AntiFa has earned this title due to its violent actions in multiple cities and their influence in the killings of multiple police officers throughout the United States,” the petition said. “It is time for the pentagon to be consistent in its actions – and just as they rightfully declared ISIS a terror group, they must declare AntiFa a terror group – on the grounds of principle, integrity, morality, and safety.”

Antifa — a nickname for anti-fascist — is a movement of extreme left-wing activists who are also typically referred to as the alt-left. They are known for facing off with members of the alt-right, as evidenced by the violence in Charlottesville.
