BBC agog: Claim validated from ‘dossier’ on Trump that Russian diplomat was a spy

[Ed. – You probably have to have experience in the biz to understand how moronic this is.  Of course the Russian diplomat was a spy.  I could have told you that.  Anyone who knows what goes on in embassies could have told you that.  It’s not just the Russians; a huge number of the personnel in embassies the world over are involved in espionage at some level.  This doesn’t validate the Trump “dossier” as a whole any more than doing an acid test of the paper it was printed on.  Bonus observation: having to reconstruct this from a misspelled name is hilarious.]

The BBC has learned that US officials “verified” a key claim in a report about Kremlin involvement in Donald Trump’s election – that a Russian diplomat in Washington was in fact a spy.

So far, no single piece of evidence has been made public proving that the Trump campaign joined with Russia to steal the US presidency – nothing. …

Trump’s supporters are entitled to ask why – with the FBI’s powers to subpoena witnesses and threaten charges of obstructing justice – nothing damning has emerged. …

At one point [Christopher Steele, reputedly author of the “dossier”] wrote: “A leading Russian diplomat, Mikhail KULAGIN, had been withdrawn from Washington at short notice because Moscow feared his heavy involvement in the US presidential election operation… would be exposed in the media there.”

There was no diplomat called Kulagin in the Russian embassy; there was a Kalugin. …

But sources I know and trust have told me the US government identified Kalugin as a spy while he was still at the embassy.
