About 80 people were detained and two men were arrested in a flash mob style robbery late Saturday night in Huntington Beach, police said.
Huntington Beach police received a call from a witness 11:08 p.m. regarding a strong-arm robbery occurring at the 7-Eleven at 706 Pacific Coast Highway, Officer Jennifer Marlatt said.
The witness said a very large group went into the store stealing items while others in the group pushed and shoved the clerk, she said.
Marcos Rodriguez, an employee in 7-Eleven’s asset protection department, said Sunday only one worker was on duty when 16 people entered the store. Some of them made off with at least $1,000 in merchandise but didn’t take any cash, he said.
The worker was not injured and the store remained closed until 1:35 a.m. Sunday.
The group then got onto a private party bus that drove north on Pacific Coast Highway. Officers stopped the bus a short distance away, Marlatt said.
