Celebs’ holier-than-thou PSA on why electors should ‘unite’ against Trump

Martin Sheen never served as president of the United States, but he played one on TV. In his latest role, he comes back all goggle-eyed and self-righteous with a lecture to the electors who will cast their Electoral College ballots next Monday.

Actually, the message is directed exlusively at Republican electors, since Sheen is evidently confident that his fellow Democrats will do the right thing.

The PSA, which features other Hollywood types, was sponsored by Unite For America, which describes itself as “a multi-partisan movement of concerned citizens and volunteers, united against the unprecedented threat of an unqualified candidate taking our nation’s highest office.” [Emphasis in the original]

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

The mission statement goes on to aver that UFA is also “grassroots” (natch) and that it was “formed in the wake of the 2016 Presidential Crisis.”

I must confess to being a little confused by  the “presidential crisis” part. If memorys serves, that crisis occurred in 2008, and the guy responsible for it, not to mention eights years of economic stagnation, will be out of office in a few weeks.

In case Hillary Clinton is salivating now over the prospect of getting elected after all, the UFA website has some potentially bad news:

Unite For America does not yet advocate for one particular candidate. Our mission is to research, develop, and support all public efforts yielding measurable results in safely resolving the 2016 Presidential Crisis. We mediate between groups, networks and unions from across the country and political spectrum to broker national grassroots strategy, messaging, communications and demands.

In short, the group is ABPE: Anybody But the President-Elect. (As for Clinton, she already stated  in October that Donald Trump’s refusing to “respect the results of this election” was “a direct threat to our democracy,” so she is kind of out of the running anyway.)

Toward its end, AFA has held candlelight vigils, threatened to hold its breath till members faces turned blue, and done all the other hillarious symbolic things that libs do when they’re mad. Here’s the video:
