Police have an undocumented immigrant in custody after officers say he carjacked a 91-year-old woman at gunpoint Tuesday and pushed her from her moving vehicle.
It happened about 1:30 p.m., at Independence and Hardesty avenues.
Police say a friend was driving the elderly woman to a drug store so she could pick up prescription medicine.
Police recovered the woman’s car in the northland, about a half hour after the carjacking.
At the drug store, officers say a Hispanic man approached the driver, a woman in her 60s, pointed a gun at her head and ordered her out of the car. Police say there was a brief struggle before the armed man took control of the car.
“The 91-year-old was still sitting in the passenger seat when the individual got in the car and started to take off,” said Darin Snapp, of the KCPD.
