Everyone knows that progressives are compassionate towards others’ suffering, while conservatives are callously indifferent, right?
Certainly, progressives think so. But William Voegeli, author and senior editor of the Claremont Review of Books, destroys that argument in the video below. First, for the welfare state to redistribute wealth to the poor, it needs… wealth. Who creates wealth? The “greedy” people that the Left condemns. Second, progressives don’t care whether their policies work. Insyead, they are smugly satisfied with a sense of moral superiority gleaned from knowing they support “compassionate” policies and politicians. But is it compassionate to feel good without doing good?
