Hillary Clinton has selected Sen. Tim Kaine as her running mate, NBC News has learned.
Clinton and Kaine are slated to appear together at a joint rally in Miami, Florida on Saturday.
Kaine, who hails from the swing state of Virginia, was long considered a top pick for the job.
A senator who serves on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Kaine is more of a centrist than some others considered for the post – including Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Labor Secretary Tom Perez. But he brings a more lengthy resume than many of his rivals, having served as a mayor, governor and senator in a state emerging as one of the top presidential battlegrounds in the country.
