[Ed. – Apparently they’re still trying to talk the guy down. I love that the police negotiator has been catching the redwood branches being thrown at him.]
Seattle police negotiators are still trying to coax a man down from an 80-foot-tall tree outside the downtown Macy’s store, more than four hours after a passer-by called 911 to report that someone had scaled the massive conifer.
“It is quite a spectacle, honestly,” police spokesman Patrick Michaud said of the incident that’s attracted onlookers, closed off downtown streets and spawned a parody Twitter account: @Man_In_Tree. …
Police negotiators used an extended ladder from a ladder truck to approach the man and try to persuade him to get down. The man has responded by yelling obscenities and at one point hurled an apple at Fire Department medics.
Witnesses say the man also has thrown pine cones and pieces of tree branch.
“He’s just been up in the tree for a few hours now, cussing at people and throwing pine cones,” said witness Braden Foley. …
At around 2:45 p.m., the man began stripping off branches from the top and tossed them at a police negotiator. The negotiator caught most of them.
