[Ed. – To be clear: what’s stupid here is calling absolutely everything an allusion to racism or the KKK.  Cutting eyeholes in a white pillowcase in order to dress as a “ghost” is something kids have done for decades without intending any sly racist allusions.  If cadets start cavorting with pointed hoods and burning crosses, it will be time to worry.]

Citadel’s president says some cadets at the military school may be suspended following the discovery of controversial photos that surfaced online early Thursday.

The images were shared on several social media sites. Citadel President Lt. Gen. John W. Rosa, who called the photos “offensive and disturbing,” acknowledged that they show “an upper class cadet in front of seven cadets with pillowcases over their heads.”

The cadets are also dressed in all white pants, shoes, and short-sleeve shirts. The pillowcases have holes cut out for their eyes. The president said preliminary reports are that the cadets were signing Christmas carols as part of a “Ghosts of Christmas Past” skit.

“These images are not consistent with our core values of honor, duty and respect,” Rosa said in a statement.

Rosa said they immediately began suspension proceedings for the cadets known to be involved, and that the investigation continues.
