[Ed. – He certainly shouldn’t have shot a security guard.  But he’s one more piece of evidence that we have a terrible, inexcusable federal government.  Even if the dispute between Labor and Downing was more in the nature of a policy disagreement than an exposure of wrongdoing — it’s hard to tell, although it looks like actual whistleblowing against a pork project — Labor should still have to adhere to the same standard a private employer is held to.  Daily Mail has more– must-read — here.]

A New Jersey congressman says a man who gunned down a security guard at a federal building in Manhattan before killing himself was a whistleblower who had been given “a raw deal” by the agency that fired him.

U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell said Saturday that several members of his staff worked with gunman Kevin Downing to resolve his case and Downing never showed any violent tendencies. …

Law enforcement authorities said the 68-year-old Downing opened fire at the federal building Friday evening, killing security guard Idrissa Camara. …

Downing then…shot himself in the head.

Downing had been fired from his job at the New York City office of the Bureau of Labor Statistics in 1999.
