A white supremacist has been ordered to spend 268 months behind bars for repeatedly stabbing an African-American man with a pair of scissors in the coastal California city of Santa Barbara.
Ryan Zietlow-Brown was sentenced this week after pleading no contest to mayhem and attempted murder charges for the lunchtime attack in August 2011. He acknowledged in court that he stabbed the man in the head several times at the behest of a white supremacist gang called the Neo-Nazi Skinheads.
“I forgive you, bro,” the victim said in court. At that point, Zietlow-Brown began to cry, theSanta Barbara Independent reported Thursday.
The tearful defendant told the court he was a changed man. “We have more in common than we don’t,” Zietlow-Brown told the victim. If he had not agreed to the plea deal, Zietlow-Brown could have faced life in prison.
